The Freedom of Information (FOI) Act entitles you to make a request for personal and public information that we hold.  The Act also give you the right to have information about how public bodies function and make decisions.

The FOI Act operates alongside the Data Protection Act and the Environmental Information Regulations 2004.

What happens next?

  • Firstly, we will check if the information requested is already available publicly, and if it is, we will make this available to you.
  • If the information requested is not already in the public domain, STAR Housing will acknowledge your request.  If clarification is required regarding your information request it will be requested at this point (your request will not be processed until we receive any outstanding clarification from you).
  • We will respond to your request within 20 working days.

Can my request be declined?

We’ll provide you with the information unless there is a valid exemption for non-disclosure under the Act.

How much will it cost?

A lot of information may be supplied free of charge, however, sometimes you may have to pay a fee, either to cover reasonable administration costs, to pay photocopying (10p per sheet) or postage costs, or because of the expense involved in finding and supplying the information.

You’ll be told in advance if a fee will apply.
